Taiko Performance at Balloon Museum

BK Taiko performed at the Albuquerque Balloon Museum for International Peace day September 21st.  The group did a wonderful performance that was well received.  Initially the group started playing with only a few folks gathered, but once people heard the sound of the O’Daiko the room filled happy visitors.  Several members of the audience were seen head bobbing and toe tapping along to the beats of the drum.  The Taiko group received numerous positive comments including from the Balloon Museum program coordinator.

Albuquerque, NM, September 29, 2013:  BK Taiko Japanese Drumming group will kick off the entertainment offered at Aki Matsuri Japanese Fall Festival Sunday September 29th.  The event will be held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, admission is $5.  In addition to the main stage performance at 10:30 am, BK Taiko will parade through the event at 9:45 am and will also be featured on the Martial Arts stage at 12:00 pm.

This group has been grabbing everyone’s attention with their energetic skillful performances.  BK Taiko performs traditional taiko numbers as well as their own original pieces.

Taiko is a high-energy blend of Japanese martial arts choreography and synchronized drumming which dates back over 2,000 years.  Taiko simply means “great drum” in Japanese and has taken on the meaning of the art form.  Traditional taiko is a musical art form which at the performance level requires serious physical strength and stamina.  Most professional taiko players run several miles on a daily basis in addition to performing regular strength building exercises besides their music training program.

The unique art form of Taiko Japanese Drumming is offered in Albuquerque at Bushido Kenkyukai Taiko Dojo located at 9911 Southern – Unit F (near Eubank & Central).  Classes are available for kids & adults.  Community and performing groups are also available.  The group owns several drums so all the students have to provide is an enthusiastic positive attitude.  The instructor has 15 years of Taiko drumming experience and has had the great opportunity to train & perform with professional Taiko drummers from Japan and the United States.  For more information on BK Taiko or their taiko classes go to www.BKTaiko.com.
